Vertu is founded upon the go-ahead of the Nokia Board.

The principle of handcrafting and the aim to use exotic, rare and naturally durable materials is established.

APRIL 2000

The decision is taken to use precision-made Swiss watch screws.

JUNE 2000

A wide-ranging team of R&D specialists is pulled together in secret.

JULY 2000

The Vertu company headquarters are established in England.

JANUARY 2001

The quarter-turn locking mechanism is designed – a mechanical delight.

MARCH 2001

The complex production process for sapphire crystal is perfected, creating the world’s largest piece of cosmetic sapphire crystal at 69.25 carats.

JULY 2001

The first prototype Signature keypad is built. After a three-year long quest, the carefully tuned ‘perfect click’ is heard for the very first time.

SEPTEMBER 2001

The Vertu training school is established. Each Vertu is handcrafted and it can take up to a year to learn how to assemble a handset from start to finish.

OCTOBER 2001

Vertu Signature is granted a Hallmark by the Swiss Assay Office – the first ever to be granted to an electronic device.

JANUARY 2002

In a spectacular location overlooking the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the first-ever luxury mobile phone, Vertu Signature, is introduced to the world.

SEPTEMBER 2002

The first Vertu Concierge request: a flight from London to New York.

JUNE 2003

The laser-drilled keypad is granted a patent.

JANUARY 2004

The second collection, Vertu Ascent, is launched to the public. Ascent draws its inspiration from high-performance sports cars.

JUNE 2004

The plasma ceramic pillow is created.

APRIL 2005

The 10,000th Concierge request is fulfilled.
